Further BT Wranglings.
Jul. 8th, 2003 04:28 pmWaiting for the confirmation email... Thought I'd leave it a day before I called BT back so they didn't just fob me off with 'oh, the email's in the system' or suchlike.
No email.
So, today, I called back with a plan of what I wanted to say, and where I would take the conversation given how they responded - basically like the flowcharts the monkeys at the end of the phone use.
I called up, explained that I'd been on the phone for half an hour, and to four different departments yesterday and given that I was told I'd get a confirmation within half an hour of the call, I was now suspicious that the request hadn't even been processed at all.
I went through the old 'spell out your username slowly' deal again, and the chap said that there was a request in the system, and that I'd recieve confirmation with **14 days** not half an hour.
To check he really did have the request in front of him, I asked him to confirm the date which the cancellation was scheduled for, he read back the correct date, so all seems to be OK there... making these people work and prove to *you* that the item is in their system is never a bad idea.
Lastly, I asked for his name so that if I didn't recieve confirmation within the 14 days I could call back and talk to him directly.
He politely spelled his name out (as it's an asian name I might not have got right) and said that would be fine, closed the call politely too. Decent bloke, really.
Also... what do you know, but twenty minutes later, the confirmation email for my account has reached me ;)
Looks like polite, firm insistence, follow-up calls and taking names can actually pay off from time to time.
Now... *so long as they really do cancel it*, I think this has been sorted.
*crosses fingers*
