One of the reasons I've been relatively quiet over the past week is that apart from having a load of things on my plate (house, gigs, work, etc), I recently smacked my head pretty hard on a low beam in the dungeon and as a result have had vertigo-like symptoms since last thursday.
The room constantly spins and I feel like I'm going to be sick.
Amusingly, we played the gig on sunday with me feeling like this and I managed not to fall off the stage... in fact, it's the only time since thursday that I've been able to forget how shite I feel... thank fuck for music.
I've now tried four different ways to get medical help.
1)
I staggered into the local doctors and said "I need an appointment, it's really urgent"
The secretary said "I'm sorry, didn't you SEE the four CLOSED signs on the door?"
"Er... no... I can't see very well at the moment, and I..."
"WE'RE CLOSED."
2)
I staggered back to the same local doctors to find them open and announced once more that I REALLY needed to see a doctor. I was told that they wouldn't see anyone who wasn't signed up to their clinic, or in the process of being so. I said "wonderful, sign me up..." (I had my NHS card and passport with me) - and was told there was nothing they could do because I didn't have a proof of address. Because we've only just moved here. DUH.
3)
Phoned NHS direct. Went through a long checklist of things, most of which didn't apply, to eventually be told "Oh, you ought to see a doctor then."
... I said I'd tried...
"Ah, well, you need to go to the local hospital's NHS department. It closes at 10, and they don't add anyone to their list after 9"
4)
Cool... I went there. At 7pm. They were booked up and told me I could come back tomorrow, or go to Accident and Emergency.
Motherfuckers.
Tomorrow, I will be at the point where I can barely walk and that angry / irritable because of my situation that I'm simply going to go back to the hospital and sit there from 8:30am until some motherfucker treats me or there'll be fucking hell to pay.
As a side note, trying to code like this sucks.
meh.
