MSN Chicanery

cyberius_slut in jason's thread, Messenger Plus totally does give you the ability to rename MSN contacts within your "normal" MSN client.
My problem with Trillian is that I've tried it a few times over the years and I just don't get on with the interface. Even since they started adding all sorts of stupid bars up the side and "pretty window edges" to MSN Messenger, it still does what I want in the way I expect it to.
Messenger Plus bolts onto MSN and quietly adds a bit of functionality via right clicks, the one I wanted being the ability to rename your contacts to a name you picked.
I've just done this and it all seems good!
The software asks if you want to install "sponsor software", which I'm guessing is some kind of adware, but allows you to install without this, without whining, so I did that.
If anything filthy happens, I'll let you know, but it seems like a real boon :)
Also, "Where is my Mind" is a really good track which I shouldn't listen to at the start of my working day, as it depresses me.
Yay!
[EDIT]
Oh, I'm in love with this fucker.
Functionality I really appreciate:
* Truncate contact names to a maximum size you define
* Boost maximum characters per message to 1100 chars
* Override text formatting so contact's font becomes the same as your own
* "Boss key" to hide the app and change the icon to a stealthy one (which you can pick, ie a network card icon)
* Notification of POP3 email waiting in other accounts
and, saints be praised:
* Export your local settings ("I just renamed 200 contacts! I'm not doing that twice!!") and re-import them elsewhere.
Absolutely wonderful.
