THE HOMOS ARE COMING! (take 2)
Jun. 22nd, 2004 12:34 pmTell your Senators to Oppose the Discriminatory Federal Marriage Amendment
The attempt to amend the Constitution to discriminate against same-sex couples and families will come to a head soon - a Senate vote on the Federal Marriage Amendment is expected in early July. We need to make sure that our Senators hear from us like never before.
I'm afraid, my dear American chums, that the HOMOS ARE COMING! THE HOMOS ARE COMING!
... and frankly, I think you ought to assist them.
This legistlation, as they say on the site linked above, needs a tonne of opposition.
Forget the rainbow LJ banners, spend a few minutes to write to the people in charge and make yourself heard.
Amusing reading around the subject, google turned up:
The Federal Marriage Amendment is a reasonable response to the crisis for our democratic society created by those who would use the courts to overcome public opinion with respect to marriage. Gays and lesbians have a right to live as they choose. But they don't have a right to redefine marriage for our entire society.
Yes, they do. Because they are members of society. They're not taking anything away from you, they're asking for equality.
You might just as well say "women have a right to live as they choose, but they don't have a right to redefine governmental process for our entire society".
As I can clearly prove here with an abacus and a sheep's cock, they do, because they are members of society.
Religions can define their own versions of marriage - if you're gay and into a religion that tells you that you can't be married, well, heads up, fucker, that religion hates your type and and you choose to subscribe to it, so boo the fuck hoo.
Law, however, should be representative of the people, and I think, as we can all tell by looking at cravat sales over recent years, the gay menace is only growing, and the last time I checked, they were humans just like us, but with better skin-care routines.
Anyway, I must leave you now, as the homos are coming.
