Orange

I've just phoned Orange, now that my contract is up, to haggle over my terms for staying on the network.

I've been on a plan that gives me 600 any-network minutes for 50 quid a month. Add my GPRS (4 quid) and insurance (5 quid - but actually worth it), plus the fact that I normally overshoot my minutes by about 20 quid's worth of additional calls and I'm spending 80 quid a month with 'em

And research indicates that Three will let you have 750 minutes per month for 35 quid.

A little haggling with the Orange rep revealed that Orange will match this plan. And, they'll knock 60 quid off the normal contract-subsidised cost of a new Treo 650, so I can get it for 40 quid.

Only problem is that they're currently out of stock.

However, now I have a quote that will save me 50 quid a month and get me the phone I want for a snip.

So long as they don't renege on the quote.

Three cheers for aliasrob for mentioning that he'd recently got a similar deal with the feckers.

I actually do want to stay with Orange, but I was hardly about to tell them that.




Translation notes for yanks:

* Orange is a cell phone service provider (quite a reasonable one)

* Three is a new-kid-on-the-block provider that's undercutting the competition to get a customer base.

* The cost of British handsets is typically subsidised heavily from a portion of the monthly bill, this way, you often get a good, new handset, without having to splash out all at once. Though you are, typically, paying for it in the end, just by different and more evenly spread means.
