I'm not entirely sure what to make of this.

Warren Ellis has apparently departed LJ as someone violated his request not to post unsolicited fiction (for reasons of legal exposure).

I understand both the legal aspect and (frankly) not wanting to be deluged in shite, but something seems amiss - if that happens here, does that mean on any given site or medium, via which someone sends unsolicited fiction, Warren has to (or will, regardless) withdraw? I'm quite open to the possibility that I've got the wrong end of the stick, but this seems more like a sulk at someone irritatingly not reading the rules and boorishly self-promoting.

And now, we bask in the fury of fans losing their shit over his loss from LJ.

Relax, kids, he's still making comics (and his many websites, and various other social forums).

Maybe, you know, if you all held a funeral in World of Warcraft for an avatar with a Spider Jerusalem skin, if you all gathered round and punched the "unhappy" animation while saying "OMG <3<3<3 ;( ;( ;( HE R DED 2 US", repeat your fury on LJ and MySpace and Facebook and post enough hatemail to this (admittedly ignorant, but hardly unusually dumb) [livejournal.com profile] nightwind23 kid who - let's get this straight - is probably a devoted (if rude) Ellis fan too...

... maybe, just maybe, Warren will return to our precious intarwebz.

Right then. I'm off to register [livejournal.com profile] nightwind24 and go send manuscripts to [livejournal.com profile] docbrite.

ARgh.

Dear Lazyweb,

For some reason, my laptop doesn't auto-open submenus when I hover the mouse over them.

This is driving me batshit, and I can't seem to find out what I've done to cause it.

Any clues?

Answer:

[livejournal.com profile] shadowofsummer pointed me here which correctly pointed out the registry entry to change.

For some reason, the system default of 400 milliseconds pause had been set to something in the order of 2^15, ie half an hour's wait before expanding.
