My head's in a weird place today.
Woke from a vivid dream that didn't stop feeling like it was more real that this life with my dayjob and my code for about two hours. Still feel strange.
In the dream, I was being hunted down my crazy screaming people driving a giant ED209 the size of a skyscraper, intent on killing me for some past misdeed, and drank poison to kill myself before they reached me.
Felt accutely how much better I deal with and closer I feel to things than people.
The only people that didn't want me gone were machines.
Hey, do flies breath?
In other news, Rico was fucking fantastic. Their live set actually makes the album pale a little as there's so much more screaming, twitching, abrasive energy to the live set.
Frank came good for us, introduced us to John Fryer, who's produced pretty much everything in the world including Pretty Hate Machine by NIN and Doubt by Jesus Jones, plus tonnes of early 4AD stuff. Most of which I didn't realise at the time, so looked like a complete dick. Still, he took a CD and gave us a business card. Seemed like a pretty fucking cool guy. I only pray me and jase didn't come across too bad. For once, jase had had a few too many and I'd had a few too few.
Finally got to say a brief hello to Rico, whom also had a CD off us. Frank said if he puts Rico on, which he hopes to (I assume this hinges on Rico wanting to do it), he'll definitely get us in to support.
Which would blow my tiny little mind.
Right. Now I return to bad physics models of lavalamps for phones I despise.
I preferred the dream.

Date: 2004-09-22 08:32 am (UTC)Equally, larger insects may require active ventilation, owing to a greater oxygen requirement, so using musclular contractions and the opening and closing of spiracles, forcibly circulate the air through their respiratory system.
/useless information

Date: 2004-09-22 08:37 am (UTC)It's a throwback to when I was a nipper. It's common for small children to have a fascination with "creepy crawlies", but not in an academic sense. ;)
Suffice it to say, the information stuck.

Date: 2004-09-22 02:14 pm (UTC)Hi-ho, hi-ho...
Won't somebody think of the giant killer bees?
Date: 2004-09-23 04:18 am (UTC)Since insects rely on diffusion (random molecular motion), rather than lungs & blood, to move oxygen around their body, insects can't grow very large because the further the oxygen has to travel, the less and less likely the random movements of diffusion are to get oxygen that far (some insects use muscles to squeeze oxygen further along their tubes but those muscles themselves are very oxygen-expensive, again limiting the size).
However, in prehistoric times there was a lot more oxygen in the atmosphere, which meant a much higher chance of random motion getting oxygen further, and that's why it was possible to have giant prehistoric dragonflies then but not giant killer bees now.
Boo.
So stop breathing and save the oxygen for the giant killer bees.
Beeeees!

Date: 2004-09-23 09:26 am (UTC)I get those occasionally. I'll be wandering around all day completely confused as to which life is the real one.
I've been getting very vivid post-apocalyptic dreams almost every night lately. I suspecte my life may be approaching the boil.
