Well, we were founded by crazy bastards who were convinced that their government was just waiting to betray them repeatedly. It'd be sad to think we COULD lose that spirit altogether ;-)

Keep in mind that despite having right wing governors, both California and New York have reputations for this type of legislation. In fact, historically it's been the Republicans who have been big on "Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness".
