A lot of schools are taking the initiative and taking chips etc off the menu, the school I worked at had crisps etc but did salads and many healthy properly cooked foods for lunch, we were much surprised when the boys of all people (this is secondary) chose to grab a saad as they could take it outside to munch inbetween footie games. It worked well and we got a lot of kudos for that. But when I say parents should try harder, I mean the ones who don't attempt to make healthy food for their kids and shut them up with sweets and crisps - in our house we had a good mix of bad and good and my Mum taught us to try and balance. Stores won't stop selling stuff, but some schools are trying harder and some are getting somewhere.
