ups and downs of gigging

Just had a really fun gig in Stockton... small crowd, but lovely people, friendly 'n a really warm welcome, followed by getting absolutely shit-faced as befits the weekend.
edwards was a total star for driving us, as were Jo, her feller, friends and extended family, and indeed the venue staff - I had a really good time and was feeling entirely content about life when I got back.
Then, I read my email, and... bombshell!
My much beloved drummer is hanging up his sticks. I knew that he was going to have to do so in the year to come as he's got plans to move to canada, but I hadn't realised it would be now...
I'm not, like, mad or anything, though I do feel a bit like I've been dumped. I knew I should have bummed him while he slept on the sofa at Jo's place. Now I'll never have the chance again!
Basically, the lad needs his weekends to get his big life plans together, and we hadn't got any more gigs booked, so he realised this might be a good juncture. I love him to pieces and very genuinely want him to succeed. I just wish I'd have known, I would have spent more time him last night instead of swanning about being a social butterfly (read: drunken twat).
Ah, man. Bollocks. I shall miss him quite terribly, he's been in the band from the very start (and, indeed, we've known each other for a good long time now, as we worked together before the band took shape).
's just me and Adam now. That's not going to fly. I think I'm going to need to find a new drummer, I can't really just put the drums on the backing track and become a two piece. Bollocks. He's a fucking awesome drummer, this is going to be a right slag.
Crap crap crap crap crap.
'End of an error', indeed.
Oh well, I did know this was coming, I'm just stumped by the timing. I'd just been feeling like racking up a string of gigs as I'd really enjoyed the weekend. Sort of found my mojo again.
Time to extract my head from up my arse and stop sulking, I guess. Everything ends, can't stop that, just have to roll with it.
TITS.

Date: 2008-04-07 01:31 pm (UTC)Seriously, I was watching and going "I wish I was just a touch better with keys" - it's wierd hearing some of the tracks with notable keyboard bits altered/missing in favour of guitar. But I definitely cannot drum, not even sufficiently to make a pub band complete, let alone Phil's levels.

Date: 2008-04-07 05:24 pm (UTC)At least you got to have it for a bit though.
I've been hunting for a live drummer for years and still de fucking nada.
We've done 2 auditions, a vetting over drinks (too young didn't drive) and three "didn't really end up going anywhere" email convs.
But still I live in hope that Jerome DIllon gets hooked on crack, blows his cash, moves to the UK and I rescue him having found him in a Southampton back alley turning tricks for rock.
