I've just created a torrent for ToRights
(the most recent non-commercial DeathBoy album).

If you haven't listened already, and like your filthy torrent downloads, then by all means go grab it, and if you have a machine that could help seed this torrent on a more long term basis, then please do grab it and do just that.

Also, of course, please do spread the music around ;) - including adding the torrent to other trackers, if you're that way inclined.

If this all works easily enough, I will be converting the entire back catalogue to torrents, and may well make a mega-torrent to rival the idea of making DeathBoy: The Lot, which I never did manage to do.
(and which, by now is too big to fit on a single DVD, I think. shit.)

Another idea that I'm really keen on, a few friends have mentioned that they've made mix-tapes of entirely DeathBoy tracks (which I've also done, to collect all the trip-hop, or all the electronic tracks, for instance). If people have collections like this they'd like to share with the public, give me a yell. You'd only need to give me the tracklisting (unless you've beat-mixed it) as obviously, I've got all the files :P

Ideally, I'd like to be able to offer these as both streaming previews and fully downloadable bundles, so if anyone's got any ideas for cool ways to do this, give me a yell.

[edit]: Another thing - this "release" is a bit spartan, mostly I wanted to see if I could actually suss it all out, but now I'm realising I could include all sorts of shit in the torrent (album art, lyrics, notes, etc). A lot of the tracks already contain things like the band URL and the lyrics embedded in the Mp3, but not all of them. Do people prefer extras like this, or would they rather just download a torrent with ONLY mp3s in it? I know I sometimes get annoyed with additional files and delete them regardless. Thoughts?

[edit2]: Also, any demand for FLACs of albums? (those which I have the source files for still could be quite high quality, potentially). I know I'm making a rod for my own back here...

Would be rude not to really.

Watch out for news stories about mass suicides on boats in the Solent.

question: do you have somewhere, a full listing of deathboy tracks, in, like, alphabetical order? I apparently have more than 60 tracks of yours on this computer and I'm starting to get a little confused about what I have and what I don't.

Also, the back catalog page has a link on the word 'gig' that gets a 404. Thought you'd like to know. Am still waiting for US tour... :)

yeah, one thing I WILL do is make sure the files aren't zipped within the bundle, so you can deselect anything you don't want to grab.

I shall probably improve as I start making the torrents, then do a few v2 reissues later down the line.

Yep, I've found that FLACs are pretty much the bestest way to squish remix packs down to the tiniest they'll go (and obviously, retain the quality).

because stem files are often largely blank space, they respond well to zipping, but you pretty much halve them again with FLACs.

What remix packs have you got ready-to-go?

I may have a go at murdering a track one day :)

In the interests in making it easier for me to pimp your music at a specific individual, FLAC files would be luuuuurvely. (all about me, clearly ...)

I shall see what I can do... maybe I'll make a best-of and FLAC that...

Have I mentioned lately how awesome you are for putting your hard work out there for us poor fools to snag, more or less via multiple sources? Because it really deserves more mention. Ego++, my good man.

That having been said, I shall now return to the default setting of snide barbs and shitty jokes. Carry on.

I second this motion.

If I have my way, all of my friends (and enemies) will hate me for shoving your music down their throats!

JAMENDO. It's Luxembourg based and is big in Germany and France, but has a lot of fans elsewhere. Brad Sucks is there and has done pretty well out of it.

I wouldn't mind FLACs, but only so I can transcode to a different lossy format to the one you're currently distributing (although I'd probably convert to Apple Lossless as well, as it'd only cost disk space). I don't ever play back FLACs directly, though.

I've got 2.51 gigs of your music on my comp, including rips of the commercial albums I bought, am I missing a bunch or something?

since others have made suggestions, I second the lyrics thinger, remix packs would be wonderfully received on my end, though I currently have no idea what to do with them I do want to learn. Pretty much, I'll eat up anything you're producing.(within reason)

If you ship me a copy of the torrent with all the little extras, I could probably be coerced to edit'em up for different available content. aka - you make one with lyrics/notes/pictures/whatever, and I'll hand you back one without lyrics, one without notes, one without pictures, one without any of it, etc.

Though... you could also make a separate torrent with all of that stuff and let us put it where we want if we so choose to download it. Free music, after all, is free music. Not much room for complaints.

I dunno, I'm brainstorming here.

I need to remember to bother you tomorrow over messenger, so if you see me without my usual away status and I haven't messaged you (and you aren't incredibly busy as you've been) message me and ask what in the bloody hell I want.

Cheers!

I noticed the album is also up on the usual servern. Did you make the torrent just to check out if it works? Or to spread the word if someone is looking for music on TPB?

Also, have you thought about sending a note to the staff at mininova? They feature a selection of free and legal torrents every day at the top of their page, don't they?

that should read "servers" there. Goddamn German plural suffix sneaking up on me there...

i prefer extras. lyrics are the most important, as i don't always understand them.
