Have to say that I'm getting used to Windows 7's start bar, with the automatic list of regularly used programs and the textual search. It's not bad.

Was that in Vista? I reverted everything on my Vista box to look like XP as soon as I got it :P

Yeah, once you get used to it, it's hard going back to say xp, without the search box :) You're all like "arrrggggh! how am I supposed to find anything in this unordered mess of crap?"

I agree - but after using Spotlight on mac rather than the vista one. I found Launchy to be a decent replacement for XP.

getting along with it pretty well except for problems with a PCI soundcard that come down to the fact that it manages all the IRQs and multiplexes one of them into a meelion virtual IRQs, which is not acceptable with devices that need to be serviced pretty time-critically.

other than that, it's pretty good. I'm still acclimatising to the changes to the file explorer, but given that everything else worked well, I'm cutting it some slack and trying to adjust to it instead of just hacking a way to replace / revert it.

I turned off UAC immediately, then ran TweakVI to switch off alllllll the graphical shit and revert many menus and such to XP behaviour.

After which it was like XP, but with generally better hardware handling.

The automatic list of regularly used programs was on vista and xp both :P

Dunno about the textual search though.

Don't flatter yourself. A fag-end down the chunnel, maybe.
