Nick Griffin is the leader of a nasty, spiteful, small-mindedd and essentially racist British minority party, which has capitalised on the current government's failures so that, for the first time, this year, they got a few representatives into office.
Much to everyone's horror, this means that they earned a degree of legitimacy that they had previously never achieved, and must (by law) be taken seriously / allowed representation by the media for instance.
As a result, the BBC (somewhat controversially) agreed to allow Griffin onto a regular political discussion program in the interests of free speech. The result was quite a hate-fest as basically everybody fucking despises Griffin and everything he stands for. Sadly, it does seem fair to say the producers allowed the show to become clearly and unreasonably biased against Griffin, which has perversely earned him some public understanding he does not deserve.
Cassetteboy is a remixer that recontextualises clips to poke fun at the subject, in this case, making Griffin appear to say the things he's cautious to avoid saying in public (and for the host to do likewise).
Given that it's quite a tense subject for everyone, it's quite a relief to be able to laugh about it for a few minutes, as the whole situation is really quite bleak!
So the common trend of using Mr Griffin as a human punching bag is all right then? Ok. Maybe he's some kind of masochist, and just does it for the abuse.
I'm not defending him, that's beyond my powers or inclination. Just odd to see everyone taking the opportunity to get their hate on .. against hate.
Hating one or more groups of people for a stereotypical misperception of the group as a whole, or so as to scapegoat a random segment of the populace: detestable.
Hating a person for their own views and actions which are antithetical to human decency, or because they are causing or intent on causing you actual harm: laudable.
I don't understand the "we have to tolerate intolerance or we're hypocrites!" movements. We don't.
