good deed?

deathboyOn the way to the shop, I passed a mother, with an overloaded trolley and three misbehaving children.
Another 10 steps down the path, I found a toy from In the Night Garden, with the tag still attached. I put 2 and 2 together, and ran after the woman.
"Is this yours by any chance?"
"Oh! Yes - thankyou!" - she smiled, then cheerfully added "not that I actually paid for it!" and stomped off with her pram and her brood.
Now I don't know if I did a good deed, or aided a thief!
