While I disagree with the Taser's use in this instance just because her mother told him to do so (WTF was that about?) there actually are times when it is extremely difficult for a trained police officer -- or even several -- to restrain a ten-year-old. I've never seen an officer draw a weapon on a child, but I've seen it take three sheriff's officers to subdue an angry tween.

I worked with homeless kids in elementary school from the boroughs in NY. My favorite moment was being greeted before 6am (and the much-needed coffee) by a seven yr-old whose idea of "hello" consisted of, "shut the fuck up, you fucking mother fucker." The not so favorite moment? Taking a fellow counselor into town for stitches to reattach his ear. And another little girl to the hospital for a head wound caused by having a rock smashed into her skull. Did I mention that these were elementary school kids?
Don't get me wrong. I love kids. Lightly salted with lemon butter, shake the pan briskly over a high heat - them's good eatin'.
