I just got the RockBox firmware for my Archos JukeBox 6000 mp3 player... it fixes EVERYTHING the manufacturer's OS did badly!

So it's not going to irritate us to fuck in rehearsals anymore, keep turning itself off or require us to press nine different buttons simultaneously to turn it on?

W00t!

it still needs the button holding down to turn it on, but the power off is a LOT more configurable **and** it has mid-track resume... so if it *does* turn off, it starts back up at the same second of the track you *were* playing. THANK GOD!

I had mine die apparently permanently... the two things I've found responsible: the internal battery charger DOESN'T.

I had to buy an external battery charger. Works fine now.

Also, the power cut out while I was copying a file, which corrupted the hard drive... I had to connect to win98 box and reformat the drive... win2k hung if I tried to connect it.

What's up with yours? I might have dealt with the problem before...

That sounds *very much* like mine. I also read somewhere on the net that their power connectors get shafted easily.

Mine *says* that it's charging the batteries... forever, in fact... and doesn't at all :)

I just bought a cheap external battery charger and now I'm fine again.

What's strange is that it seems like it *runs* off the power when it's plugged in, but doesn't charge... for instance... when you plug the USB cable in, if the batteries are low, it takes *ages* to transfer files or even refresh explorer... but with the power cable in, it works fine.

Anyways, as I say - if you haven't already, try just getting an external battery charger - seems to work for me.

Damn archos with their tasty yet defective hardware...
