I just got my upgrade bits.

Not the fastest, bestest of kit, but for £170 I've now got:

* 512mb of 266 DDR Ram
* Athlon 2600 XP
* Gainward Geforce 4

... my OLD setup (pre-chip-explosion) was:

* 512mb of SDRAM
* Athlon 2000 XP - NOT running as fast as it could because I had the wrong speed RAM
* Riva TNT 2 - old workhorse little feller

and, for a week and a half I've been running (due to the chip-explodey)

* 512mb SDRAM
* Duron 1.1ghz
* Matrox Mystique Rainbow Runner (old and by today's standards CACK)

... I FEEL SOOOOO MUCH BETTER.

God, I love new kit.

Cubase is *purring* along at 10% CPU load with all my softsynths, effects, audio channels with inserts and EQ running.

I now need a copy of Quake or Unreal because I deleted all my games when I ran out of drive space (just before the Great Porn Cull of 2003).

Come one, Q3 Demo, I want to shoot stuff...

nono, I'll **VERY** happily buy boxed product for that kind of price, particularly when I know the games are good.

IMVHO, creative types like yersell should avoid having too much (maybe read any) games on their machines. I know how much time I waste on the buggers, but then I have a rather addictive personality and find myslef doing nothing at all but playing games for hours on end, then turning round and asking "where did the weekend go?"

Nah...I have Deus Ex, Halflife, Unreal and a few others on my hard drive. When you have to get something out the lure of Cubase is second to none.

Didnt need a new motherboard with that? I'm struggling on an Athlon 700, 256mb, Voodoo Banshee 16mb. I NEED a new pc.

It's SOOOOO GOOOOOOD... I've just been playing Q3 in highest detail setting at 1200x1024 and it runs like a *motherfucker*... wooohoooo!
