for The Phil

Today is The Phil's birthday.
So I've finished "Massive", from our Shadow Freaks album.
The first track was "DeadLife". Written in 2000.
Recently, I started "Recalcitrant", in my great foray into good-ideas-I-couldn't-finish.
It's only taken about four years to get a second track actually finished.
Phil is the man behind the lyrics to Computer #1, Hellisontheway, Black Morning, Angel on my Shoulder, Money and Confidence and part and parcel of many other DeathBoy tracks, either implicitly, by inspiration, permission or influence.
We met in english class, age 13.
I found someone who saw the world the same as me.
When he spoke, I didn't need to.
When I made a joke, I didn't need to make the punchline. Instead of a room full of faces looking down at me as if *I* was the stupid one, I got a grin and a wiggle of the eyebrows and eyes that understood.
The world was and is better for knowing I'm not alone.
We share the same brain.
When we were kids, suffering the kind of mind-molesting depression that kicks in the first time, we swore we'd not leave the other one alone.
Like an anti-suicide pact.
If one of us went, we knew the other would.
So when everything went jet, we both held on tight because it would be so utterly fucked to leave the other one alone.
And we got THIS far.
Phil writes excellent poetry.
He's getting published of late.
He's the reason I'm still here.
Happy birthday, man.
I love you more than me.
Let's kill the whole fucking thing and scream armageddon as the gods all die.
Mine's a bad pill in a ditch with a mate.

Massive - Matthew Phillips and Scott DeathBoy
famous last words leave the night cold
Misery no remedy thatÂ’s good for me
Your fragile ego leaves the air stale
Dishonesty no lottery that wins for me
Your goodbyes leave the dreams shot
History no mystery that plays for me
Your stolen moment leaves the smile froze
Gravity no sanity that holds for me
Your bleeding shadow leaves the door closed
Monopoly no property to pay for me
Your manic logic leaves the cuts raw
Profanity no family that works for me
Your waiting sorrow leaves the clouds grey
Policy no possibly that comes for me
Your hating tears leaves it mark stained
Suddenly no currency that rates with me
--oOo--
Your comments leave the air blue
Quietly no silently that speaks to me
missing leaves with every second fraught
Divinity infinity that prays for me
understanding leaves the class-jailed
Sincerity integrity that teaches me
Your depression with a life to cheat
Depravity no vanity that mirrors me
--oOo--
crawling down leaves your skin pale
Scarcity no rarity that stays with me
Your hurting heart leaves a time lost
Lonely no phoney that lives with me
Your pulling doubt leaves your hope frail
Emotionally no socially to fund for me
Your hating heart leaves the sun drowned
Erotic no geography to search for me
--oOo--
Your waiting arms leave your hands burnt
Unity no purity that holds to me
Your scheming text leaves the red mist
Suitably no mutiny that steals for me
Your crying tale leaves the end gone
Womanly no stubbornly that fights for me
Your playing games and the rules broke
Sickly no quickly that heals for me
--oOo--
Your weak spirit leaves my word strong
Amusingly no furiously that works for me
Your joking voice leaves your breath plain
Sadly no gladly that smiles for me
Your emptiness leaves your word framed
Solitary no voluntary that talks to me
In quiet noises leave your lie believed
Incessantly no pleasantry that answers me
--oOo--
Flicker and fade
These lives we've made
This bulb ain't broken
the light was like it from the start
'Cos nothing's clean
and nothing's perfect
and nothing's worth it
without a little bit of hate

Date: 2004-10-01 11:18 pm (UTC)I like Massive. It wasn't what I expected, but it seems like you're all over the place musically, depending on the mood you're in when you happen to do it. I also like music that doesn't need to follow a verse-verse-chorus structure, and I was relieved it didn't have a poppish chorus tacked into it for the sake of a hook.
Also, do you have a Canadian disributor, or is it only internet orders for us lowly colonies?
WWM.

Date: 2004-10-02 03:29 am (UTC)If they hassle you, it wouldn't hurt to flutter your eyelashes and say "I'm from america and I'm only here for the weekend and all my friends said this was the BESSSST club to go to!" ;)
Seriously, though, the door staff are actually quite nice guys.
