a quite reasonable looking breakdown of why it seems apparent that the owner of lokitorrent took the money and ran.

"I told you so"s can pick a portion of my arse to massage.

I donated $20, 'cos it looked like the only people fighting "our" corner.

Painful to be shat on, if that's what happened.

Jury's still out, but it's not looking ultra-positive.

I don't know. This guys debunking isn't as solid as he'd like to pretend it is.

If LokiTorrent.com had been sued in Dallas Federal Courts, then some type of public record would appear. NO ONLINE RECORD APPEARS WHATSOEVER!

Some type of public record=/=online records.

As for his whole "hosted on a different location" bit, the MPAA isn't necessarily moving Loki onto their own site as a subdomain. I mean, if it's already paid for and the like, why not just leave it as is until the paid time on it expires?

I dunno.

I think that if they did requisition it, they _would_ relocate the hosting, if only to be in total control.

i'm not totally convinced, but I'm being swayed.

There is that too. A lot of what he's saying hinges on if the MPAA has done much like this before too. I know the RIAA are a bunch of twats and parade themselves around dicks in hand when they pull this, but I'm granting that the MPAA might have a slight bit of class.

Oh, who am I kidding, Loki at best used the money to pay off his lawsuit.

The US federal court put of all their document dockets online into PACER. Its been long enough now that it would have shown up on their online system by now.

However, I'm particularly unsure about their "Top Texas Lawyer" and his poor eloquence and spelling of legal terms.

If it was a scam, it was a silly one. There's a very well documented request for money for a specific purpose. I'm reasonably certain that even one complaint to the police in his area (is ME Maine?) and he would be charged with fraud and conspiracy to commit, along with everyone who helped him.

It's not very much money to risk prison time for. It would take me, with my grade 11 and equivalency diploma, a whopping six months to make that if I were willing to work regularly. I'm reasonably certain if he had any sort of skills he could do the same, quite legally.

If it is fraud, he either expected there to be more money donated, or he just isn't very bright.

The non-fraud option is that he's using the money to set up the server network somewhere that the MPAA can't stop him. I don't think they have any authority in Antartica. Or the Moon. $40k is cheap for lunar infrastructure development.
