I'm a bit depressed recently.

There was, like, 30 seconds of "mad world" (the Gary Jules version) on telly and I wound up suddenly crying and having to leave the room.

because I'm a prick, later on this evening, I decide I ought to grab a bunch of versions so I can depress nicely.

I kinda like the horrible, rapacious way we did it about three years ago. [link]

that makes me smile more.

I can't listen to the other versions.

I'm not doing very well at the moment, I don't think. Something inside seems to have snapped. Sorry about that.

It happens to the best of us. It just takes the strongest of us to admit it to a very large and sometimes harsh public. So, you're doing better then most. At least I'd think so.

I've actually found "depressing" helps out. Keeps the snapping down when you actually control it. Just my thoughts, I may be completely wrong though.

Your way makes me smile more, and I like to think of your version more then others. Albeit, I'll admit that when I want to depress, I do think of the other versions more.

Above all though, I do find the way you guys put it together better. Smiling is very much a better trait in music I think :)

I do love your version of mad world (I have it on the mp3 and priority playlists). It helps me get through insane stress levels and workloads.

I've bawled more than once to that song, though I was introduced to the version in Donnie Darko first, so that's the one I have the most emotional attachment to.

If you feel like breaking your brain, have you ever heard the mashup : Bad World?
It's an....experience. Not something I'd listen to normally--- actually---ever. But hearing it at this party was painfully fun It's so wrong. My friend, who had already heard it and was excited to see someone else hear it for the first time was like "I want to watch!"

If you feel like wallowing in the feeling that song gives then listen to this mashup later. Because it's a total travesty.
listen at your own risk (http://obsidity.com/f/01%20Bad%20World%20(DJ%20Mike%20W's%20mash-up%20mix).mp3)

Always makes me cry too. All the versions except the original, in fact, including yours, which I found by accident on SoulSeek because I have no ethics.

Because you leave me supportive comments (yes, you do) I don't feel too bad about leaving one myself that says, you know, e-mail or something, if it'd be vaguely helpful. And if not, then work on the assumption that I am thinking something helpful in your general direction. Or something amusing, at least.

Ah yes that advert for Gears of War on TV chose a very good song. Works wonderfully.

I remember the gig when you first played Mad World. It was your Slimes encore track opening with you geeing the audience up by shouting "would you like to hear us ruin mad world?" My sister remembers it fondly as well as that was her first Deathboy gig.

Just recently, having been through a bit of an emotionally tumultuous time, ending in depression, I find I get a little overwraught now and then, too.

I can be watching *anything* on TV and, when a sad storyline comes on, I feel myself choking up. Doesn't even have to be well written. It can be the cheesiest pile of nonsense and there I am, empathising with the characters so much that I'm practically choking down a fucking sob!

Maybe I am just turning gay?

Hey, I have had my flag firmly planted in 'furry front bum' territory from the very start!

I've never held with those pillow biting shenanigans that I know you favour. Cock-knocker that you are... ;P

I am quite looking forward to it...

i think the world in general seems to be in a negative downward spin.

...either that or i have managed to filter out all the joy around me and focused purely on the negative, but hey, people need focus in their lives, right?

the objective of being alive has become quite deeply buried under layers of daily ritual and habit, and there seems to be nothing obvious i can point at or grasp onto as a sustainable reason for making the effort.

so mostly, now, i don't.

vicious cycle.

were i less apathetic, less pessimisitic, less lazy even, i might do something creative, but i don't find it makes any difference, in fact the frustration of not being able to create anything worthwhile merely makes me worse.

oh, there's supposed to be a point here.

yes.

you're not alone. the world is pretty shitty right now.

it was a wicked track :)

I've got a synth with a phrase-sequencer function now... you can play looped patterns (like custom arpeggios, effectively...) I keep toying with programming it to just play the whole song off one key...
