coo... there's a track name / idea...

'Read Perf's comment about adjusting his phase for work, etc, something I'm painfully aware of...

I seem to be fighting a constant battle just to keep my work-hours starting at lunch-time, let alone making any headway towards my goal of getting back into phase with the rest of the working world.

I know staying up till late mucking about on the net and / or writing music doesn't help (nor does drinking, as it makes me like a walking sloth-creature the next day), but I really can't seem to get a hold on it.

Woke up 8am the past two days... monday, I got up and about until about 1... then had a nap until 2, then carried on until about 5, then had to have another nap, I was that tired.

Today, I ate my toast, said allo to a few people on IRC (from my bed) and immediately fell back to sleep until 12pm.

SO, for now, rather than worrying about getting up early, I'm going to make an effort to be in bed for midnight at the *latest*, so that my two-hour reading-in-bed-habit only drags on till 2am. If I can do that for a few weeks, then I'm going to try the getting-up-earlier thing again.

If anyone has any habits / tricks / magical drugs of splendour (other than club-drugs, caffeine and taurine) they want to recommend for making you wake up and STAY awake in the morning, then please do comment...

I R NARCOLEPTIC IN THE A.M.

Acid...it'll keep you awake like a bastard for days if you let it (I had a 24 hour trip followed by a 36 hour comedown once)...just don't expect to get any work done for the duration

Something guaranteed to keep you awake is to put a bulldog clip on your nob and cuff your hands behind your back.

Works for me, anyway. ;)

Poppycock! Your knob would just go numb eventually, then due to the lack of bloodflow would turn a rather horrible colour, turn gangrenous and have to be amputated. So instead of helping him work he has no knob.

What he needs is a strict mistress to stand over him with a vicious cane. Everytime he even thinks about nodding off, *thwack* on the head. You know it makes sense.

Apparently the brian releases a wh0remoan/chemical at a certain time in the morning which arouses the body and helps you wake up. This is part of the so-called body clock thingy. You need to train your body into efficiently releasing this magical elix0r of alertness by waking up at the same time every day for a while.

I wake up at 08h45 every (work) day and even if I go to sleep after 04h00 i can still wake up easily, supposedly due to this body clock malarky.

Posessing a cock gives ME morning glory.

And afternoon glory.

And "Having just seen a fit wench on the tube" glory.

And, indeed "here's 20p for that packet of polos which, via their tubular relationship to a cunt give me the horn" glory.

Pa-TWOIIIIING!

You cunt

I've got a similar problem - can't get to sleep before about 4AM, don't get up until about 11:15 most days...

This is partly because I'm jobless scum at the moment, but still, not good.

Try getting hold of some NyQuil. I don't think you can get it here, but you might be able to get one of your many American friends to send some over. I normally take ages to get to sleep, but I swear, I took one NyQuil and I was out for 8 hours.. you don't feel too bad in the morning either ;) Also, drink vodka and orange instead of vodka and coke! A nice warm bath before you put your head down helps as well, and I find putting a DVD on quietly in the background with commentary instead of the film works well, especially if it's just one guy doing the commentary as it's more boring and drony. Either that or soft radio or classical music, but depends if that'll just annoy you more than it'll help ;)

actually, you're right about the vodka and coke vs orange... the only problem is that I fall asleep before finishing the track...

I suppose on that front, the sensible line would be to mix with orange when *not* writing music.

as for nyquil... I'm not sure it's legal to import that BIG FUCKING Q, but I might ask on LJ... muahaha

exercise?

Date: 2003-01-07 05:51 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] inferis.livejournal.com
it might sound a bit too much like hard work, but I find 15-20 mins of exercise wakes me up quite effectively.

I usually just muck about with some weights, try sit-ups or even shadow kick boxing...depends what I'm in the mood for :)

The only problem with it is that although I know it works, I'm not always in the right frame of mind to *start* it...

THAT IS THE *STUPIDEST* IDEA I *EVER* HEARD.

Actually, it's a really good idea.

The closest I get is walking to the shop for tabs in the morning, which, combined with the fresh air works quite well, although, again, the motivation to DO that is often lacking.

I *could* however, try doing half an hour of Dancing Stage each morning... that would not only wake me up, but increase my 1337 DS skills.... hmmmMMMm ;)

It's like the morning evening person thread I had a while back though. Some people are just suited to mornings and some just aren't.

And if you are anything like me your best creative ideas happen when you are a little bit tired, and when the juices are flowing you just kind of carry on for as long as possible.

You might want to try melatonin. It's used to combat jetlag, and screws around with your sleep pattern. Word of warning though, take it about 3 hours before you intend on sleeping otherwise you won't be able to sleep. When I tried it, I took it as I went to bed, couldn't sleep for 3-4 hours, then slept heavily, missed my alarm and got in late for work. I DID awake feeling refreshed and awake though. It might help with your predicament if used in the correct way though....
Otherwise you could always rig your alarm clock up with a bucket of freezing water... ;)
