i make the music i listen to...

Another one of those lovely sunny days.

I've decided to remind myself that I can make some quite beautiful things that aren't all spit and bile by rounding up some of the more trancey/techno/uplifting tracks that I've done over the years and putting them into a compilation that suits being listened to on a sunny Friday afternoon :)

01 - Chlorine (2005)
02 - Beautiful Skies (2003)
03 - No Control (2000)
04 - Lose Me (1999)
05 - Let Me Show You (2004)
06 - Micronaut (2006)
07 - Clean (1999)
08 - Shallowmind (2004)
09 - All Inside Me (1999)
10 - Synthetic (2000)
11 - Sunriser (2007)
12 - Two to the Power (1999)
13 - Anuism (2006)
14 - Remembering (Water) (2000)
15 - Where Did You Hear It? (1993)

or, a ZIP of the whole lot (~98mb)

If you like, feel free to distribute (either links, or the mp3s, or hey, cut a friend a CD). If you don't, stuff ya :)

These tracks are (as you can see) scattered from over the last decade, with the last track being one I made when I was 16 on an Amiga, recovered from tape. They vary is genre and quality, but are ones that put me in a good mood.

And I don't sing! On any of them! JOY!

See? I'm not that vile inside, really. :)

you're not vile at all. anyone who gives me new music on a friday this close to deadline automatically moves to the front of the line for candy and gnomes. (however, if i share these, shall i list the artist as Deathboy? i plan to promo them on mog if you're ok with that.)
yay! new music!!!

[identity profile] deathboy.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
yup, listing the artist as deathboy is just right, ta ;)

Funnily enough Chlorine is my favourite song of yours. :) Remembering water is up there too.

[identity profile] deathboy.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
hilariously, I totally forgot that I'd written it... got drunk, wrote nice track, uploaded, linked to, got on with life, then someone else asked me where it was 'cos they liked it and lost their copy and I had to search my drive... 'was quite pleasantly surprised :)

I shall download that tonight as work have become pissy about personal downloads. :o(

Ah OctaMed! That dodgy monophonic piano just brings it all back :D

[identity profile] jaketherat.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, on further listening that's some pretty super-advanced OctaMeding. Clever little bastard weren't you?

[identity profile] deathboy.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
It was all I had to make music with back then, you had to get a bit nifty with it to make it sound vaguely non-shite :)

Spreading the plague!
Sunriser is fighting it out with Anuism for favorite atm.

Awesome! It's going on the iPod and into the car very shortly. Wheeeeeee!

I apologise for right-click save-as-ing all the files, and *then* noticing the ZIP.

no skin off my nose! :) I use DownThemAll for such purposes :)

Who's that girl on Beautiful Skies again? I remember asking before.

Wasn't much of a chance to notice the sun today, but this is great writin' music. Thanks for it.

In a few words.

Fucking. Ace.

Funny thing, I've been wondering how my label mates manage to come up with such miserable tunes.

Most people... when you listen to a miserable tune, it cheers you up, because you think, there is some other poor bastard who's got it at least as bad as me. But by the same token, I don't understand how miserable tunes get made... because I've tried it and frankly, when you hear yourself singing about something miserable, it doesn't really cheer you up. It's just yourself being just as miserable as you are now, two weeks ago. Which isn't very uplifting.

So there's little incentive to go back and work on your miserable tunes some more.

I guess, Scott, you get away with it usually by writing tunes in a single hit, single long session, and not having to go back and think, crikey! I was just as miserable last week as this morning!

But anyway, maybe it will do you more good for you to have a compilation of your own cheer up tracks than it does for us. But those of us that aren't evil won't begrudge you that.

[identity profile] rfish.livejournal.com 2007-03-11 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
p.s. yeah and when I can be fucked I'll actually listen to it too!

[identity profile] deathboy.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
christ, I wouldn't :D

[identity profile] deathboy.livejournal.com 2007-03-11 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
dunno, man. for me, writing a good, hateful / angry / sad tune is like putting the demons in a box.

they're out of my head and they're stuck down now, in the song. the act of analysis by writing and later, listening to the song, takes some of the bad feeling out of my head and makes something at least vaguely useful out of it.

but sometimes i like to think that i have something more pleasant in my head, too, hence the compilation. :)

[identity profile] mechanicaljack.livejournal.com 2007-03-11 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with the whole 'putting the demons in a box' analogy. I wrote a book full of angsty poems in high school, and it was good therapy.

On another note, I sadly can't fit this whole thing on a single cd. It's just over 80 minutes, and I can't decide which track to leave off, so for now I'll leave it on the comp.

[identity profile] deathboy.livejournal.com 2007-03-11 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
crap. i didn't even check that.

hah!

I'd best take a look...
